Easter Hat Parade

I am sorry it has taken me so long to get these photos posted. I have been having many internet troubles for several days. The Easter Hat Parade was loads of fun! It was the Saturday before Easter. We started off at Pioneer Square in down town Portland, there were so many photographers there it felt like the paparazzi was there.




Along the way we stopped off at the Benson Hotel because it made for a grand setting for photos:

Here is a picture of me at Elephants Deli which was our final destination for the parade. It was a great place to end the parade because they have the most lovely foods, pasteries, and beverages:

In this pic I have on my hat that I won from Solanah's contest that she had a couple months ago, I have a huge hat collection and out of all of them I decided the one that I won from Solanah would be the very best. Light pink skirt from a 24 hour yard sale (I caught the very tale end of the sale and they just wanted to get rid of everything - so I got 3 wonderful skirts for a dollor!)

Black Boots from Meier and Frank (pre Macy's - tells you how long I have had them)

I really wanted to wear one of my pretty vintage flowered dresses with some beautiful strappy shoes for the Easter Parade but it ended up being very, very, wet that day. I wore my long black wool coat, my pink, black, and white Pendleton scarf, my little black vintage unbrella with the lavender rhinestone handle, and my trusty black boots. I ended up going with the pink for spring and the black because it still felt like winter.

Oh yes and I did end up being on TV, I would post this video onto my blog but I can not for the life of me figure out how to down load the video and put it here on my blog. Oh well.

Hi everybody I just wanted to take the time to introduce you all to Bix, a 1930's kind of guy. Bix is my best friend. He is also the best shopping partner in the whole world and he is like me, loves all things vintage.

Revlon's Cherries in the Snow

I have been thinking about Cherries in the Snow - Revlon's that is - for a while now. I had to give in and buy it. I am so glad I did, I had been wearing bright red for so long and in winter I switch to a deep wine color however since spring is just around the corner I needed a redish pink color for my lips and nails, something to go with cool brights or cool pastels. This color is so perfect and it is from the 1950's.

In the ad above is Dorian Leigh a popular model from the 40's and 50's. She did this ad in 1953 when she was 36, to me that is so wonderful to see a beautiful model from the past modeling into her mid to late 30's because I started modeling soon after I turned 40.

I love the gold tube that Revlon's lip colors used to be in it is so vintage looking, now they are in black plastic. Oh well I love the color and I like that it is vintage.

Portland Style Council! Brooksie


February's Portland Style Council Interview is with Brooksie.
Brooksie does vintage themed modeling, and the photo posted above is from an Elvgren themed photo shoot that she did. (The photo is on her blog).
-How long have you been collecting vintage clothing for?
I started off collecting vintage accessories when my grandma passed away 30 years ago (I was nine), I inherited many of her things. In the beginning it was about 40 handkerchiefs, 4 handheld fans then as time went on acquired (of my grandma's via my mom) about 30 vintage scarves, a locket from the year she was born 1905, her class ring from 1923, her wedding ring, gloves, her old back and white photos, and many other things. These things have always been so special to me. I got my first actual vintage outfit when I was 15 back in the 80's it was a 1950's suit made of black water mark taffeta. The skirt was a pencil skirt and the jacket was a bolero. I have been hooked ever since.
-What got you into vintage clothing?
My first awareness of anything vintage was big band/swing music, I remember visiting that same grandma and she would always be listening to Glenn Miller Orchestra. I remember this as far back as about the age of four or five. I got to where as a child I was able to know the words to these songs and to this day I absolutely love swing and big band. I went and saw the Glenn Miller Orchestra in Tillamook about three years ago.
-What are your favorite eras of clothing?
My favorite eras for clothes are the 20's through the 50's with a special interest in the art deco period."
