Bonnie & Clyde to the Rescue a roaring 20's event!

Here is another event I would like to extend an invitation to all of those who are in the Portland/Vancouver area:

Bonnie and Clyde to the Rescue is a dance and live action to benefit Silver Star Search and Rescue. Come dressed for the roaring 20's and enjoy an evening of jazz, flappers, and gangsters. It is located at Fort Vancouver Historical Reserve at the Red Cross building 605 Barnes Street on November 11, 2010 7pm to 9:30pm.

There will be a band, AnnaPaul and the Bearded Lady (awesome band, they are the band that has been playing every Wednesday at the Speakeasy Event!). The ever so lovely and gracious Frankie Tease will be teaching Charleston lessons and yours truly will be the sweet and sexy candy cigarette girl! So please come and make a night of it, it will be lots of fun.

Tickets are $20.00 which includes a drink and a trip back in time to our roaring 20's extravaganza (or two for $35.00). In honor of Vetran's day 10% of the ticket sales will go to the USO. To purchase tickets or for any questions please contact: Bonnieandclyde2010@rocketmail.com.

Live Art Show!

Hey everybody I will be modeling in yet another Live Art show! On Saturday November 6th the show is from 1pm to 3pm (I have the 1pm to 2pm time slot). It is only $5.00 to come, have a fun time and create art. Bring your camera and/or sketch book and pencils.

This time I will be Madame Brooksie the 1920's gypsy fortune teller! Come and see what the future may hold for you - I can predict this much - I will be there dressed the part and I will be doing mock tea leaf, palm, and tarot card readings. Now how fun is that? This will I believe will be the first Live Art event with audience participation, I will be asking for volunteers from the audience to come up on stage to model with me during the shorter sets so I can have a victim ahem I mean a person to model a reading on.

The Live Art show is at Backspace Coffee Shop 115 NW 5th in Portland, it is right on the MAX and bus line.

Avon? Yes, Avon!

Me with the Mee-ow hat (faux leopard-print beret) and Poppy Love lipstick and gloss in one.
I have not really thought about Avon too much in more recent years. The last time I thought about it was grade school when my mom used to buy me those plastic solid perfume pins (I had an Easter bunny one and a ginger bread man - I loved them when I was a kid).

However I have been thinking about it a lot more latly and that is because my co-worker Shelley is an Avon Representative. Each week she brings the new catalogs - I have to confess the first couple rounds of catalogs I did not really pay attention to them, then one day I decided I had better take a peak. What a surprise! I put myself up to a personal challenge that if I found things that a vintage wearing gal would like that I would buy them, now I have been finding my self wanting something from just about every catalog.

I found this adorable fuzzy beret called the Mee-ow Hat that I have on in the pic above (I love it!). I also found the sweater berets with matching gloves and scarf - the sweater sets are made out a sweater like knit and come in a few beautiful jewel tones and the berets even have an actual jewel like setting attached to them - it was a hard decision on between a sweater beret in a lovely jewel tone and the Mee-ow Hat but the Mee-ow Hat won!

I have also found the Poppy Love lipstick (I had been searching for a great 1930's Chinese Red for a while) and the Poppy Love Satin Lipstick is the closest I have found. The Poppy Love Lipstick is lipstick and in the middle of it is a lipgloss applicator so it can be worn three ways: the lipstick on it's own, lipgloss on it's own or you can combine the lipstick and gloss together. I love it - very moisturizing and it has a very nice light fruit scent too. I have also found so many other cool things in the Avon catalog pages, such as beautiful vintage looking jewlry, hats, make-up, and more. Plus ordering from Avon is very convienient too. So you all know I am not a rep for them and I do not get any money and/or gifts to do this blog. I really have been enjoying the stuff I had been getting and thought others might like these things too plus I am helping to support my friend Shelley and her business.

If you would like to check out Shelley's website on Avon just go to the link above, to request a catalog: e-mail Shelly Heidegger: sunshine1009@rocketmail.com.

A night at the ballet.

Isn't this Art Nouveau style poster above beautiful?
I scored some free tickets (from my work) to the ballet so I took my friend Julie. We saw Sleeping Beauty, it was such a beautiful peformance. I love the ballet and I feel so fortunate to have been able to get to go. We had first balcony seats front and center so we had a really good view. We both got all dolled up, as you know I love to dress up and I do not even need an occassion to do so but when I do it is even better. Afterwards we went to the Rimsky Coffe House for some after ballet treats.

Another Speakeasy Wednesday Night!

More Speakeasy Wednesday Night Fun!

Here is Julie and I at the Speakeasy, learning to dance yet again just this last Wednesday night. This swing dance series put on by Swingtime PDX has been so much fun. We have been learing Balboa (30's swing) and East Coast Swing. Starting in November they will be starting the next series and will be teaching the Charleston! (Oh my goodness - I have been wanting to learn the Charleston so bad - I am so excited I can hardly contain myself). For this current series fashion wise I have been getting into a kind of a bohemian 20s/30s look and have been having a lot of fun with it.

Here is a pic of some fancy foot work of  the speakeasy participants.

Until next time Mes Amis!

Swing Time Speakeasy Event!

Last Wednesday I attended this awesome Swing Time Speakeasy event.

It was so much fun that I plan to attend every Wednesday. It is located at the Bossonova Ballroom at 722 E Burnside and is just a quick hop from where I live. The event is $5.00 and you get a swing dance lesson, there is a live band with plenty of opportunites to get out and dance. There is also old time vaudville style entertainment. By the time you leave you feel as though you have taken a step back in time.

I do have to admit however that I am truly not a very good dancer (I just can not seem to get my feet co-ordinated with what my brain is telling them to do and the half of the time my brain is out to lunch and then my poor feet are just lost) but at least I am making an effort and having fun. I figure if I just keep coming back some of it has got to stick right? I do have to admit that swing dancing (and learning to swing dance) is out of my comfort zone but it is something I really want to learn how to do and the only way I will learn is to get involved and everybody has to start somewhere. Plus these Swing Time Events are just so much fun, I attended one of the other Wednesday night events a couple of weeks ago.

Here is a pic from just this past Wednesday night:

My Ziegfeld girl photo

I told you all that if I got up enough courage I would post a photo from my Ziegfeld girl shoot, well here it is. When this was taken I was working with John from Stereoblind photography, he is a modeling mentor and he was working with me on doing this shoot. When John mentors a model he likes to have you streach your limits (he does not make you do anything you do not want to do) but when you are done you know you have taken your modeling to the next level. For example I would never do nude modeling it is just not me but this is considered implied nudity which I have wanted to do however it took a lot of courage for me to do this, so basically I had to step out of my comfort zone. I wanted the picture to look like something from the late teens or early 20's (like a Ziegfeld girl style photo) and I think we succeeded.

Now here is the actual photo of the Ziegfeld girl that was my inspiration:
