Outfit for today

Today's outfit was a fun and colorful one! I decided to do a 1940's turban because I have been very inspired by some of the other bloggers lately. I had errands to do today so I was walking to the stop to catch the city train because I had to go to the mall to drop off some things at the shoe repair place. It was fun to see the people stare at me and also fun to see people get big huge smiles on there faces, now that was the best! On the way back I was walking in the cross walk in front of a bus and there was a guy on the bus in a fedora with some round vintage looking sun glasses he sat up real straight and kept looking and looking at me as I was going by, he must have been a kindred spirit!

Okay so now for the outfit details:

Hair turban is made up of 3 scarves - One is a silk vintage novelty tourist scarf that is all about California (it was thrifted) the next one is a red chiffon (also thrifted) the one on the very bottom that you can not see (from the Vintage by the Pound Store - more on that another time).

Hat pins - Larger one with pearls and rhinestones (from my mom), the small one - it may even be a straight pin with a pearl on the end of it but it makes a great hat/scarf pin (came from my grandmas sewing box).

1930's cotton dress - Gift.

Bakelite bangles all except the largest one (the one that is orange, red and yellow) I think is Lucite - Various antique malls, stores and shows.

Hosiery - Thrift store (never worn still in the original package).

Shoes Bandolino brand - thrift store

Outfit for today plus my latest acquisition!

Adorable enamel butterfly pin from Lulu's Vintage.

Today's outfit:

Hat - Free from a naked lady clothing exchange party.
1930s Dress - Free, I got it from a store called Helping Hands (no longer open) that helped out people who are jobless (which I was a couple of years ago and I am yet again) they would let you take home 8 items a week. They had mostly modern day stuff however I found and took home some other vintage items (seamed stockings, gloves, hat, purse etc...)
Red slip under dress - Gifted
Waist sash/pure silk ribbon - oblationpapers
Knee socks - lilleboutique
1940's dance shoes - lulusvintage Ann is the owner of Lulu's vintage (her nick name is Lulu and is a friend of mine). She has a store not to far from where I live, I was in the neighborhood so I stopped in to say hi. Lulu took some pictures of me in her store today in my vintage outfit, I am sure I will end up over in her blog and when I do I will post the pics.

Also while I was there I picked up this super cute enamel butterfly pin, I already have one enamel pin that I got about a year ago at a different place. It is a moth and is a very pretty brownish wine color with yellowy gold highlights in the wings. Ever since I bought it I have been in love with enamel vintage jewelry and I told myself if I found another moth or butterfly I would buy it, so home it came with me. I bought that one from a gal who said it belonged to her grandma in the 1940s, which I assume this pin is from the 1940s too. If I remember correctly the gal I bought it from said her grandma was from Hungry and this is where the pin came from. I have a very large brooch/pin collection (over 50!) I inherited many from my grandma and my mom gave me several, then I started adding to the collection myself. I will be doing a post of my brooch collection soon (that way you all can see the enamel moth pin plus more).

Outfit for today

Even though it is technically spring here it is still very cold and wet. I can not wait for some sun, so I can wear my spring and summer dresses. It rains for about 10 months here (if we are lucky) and sometimes it rains almost all year and our summer will end up being about 3 weeks rain free in August. Life goes on and in the mean time we still wear wool skirts, high boots, and sweaters.

My outfit:

1940's blue sweater layered over basic brown v-neck ribbed sweater (about 10 years old) - 1940's sweater was gifted to me from my sister in law about 15 years ago it used to be hers. Brown sweater came from a charity shop.

Tin bird pin - Gift from co-worker (she just got back from the Gouguin art exhibit up in Seattle, she got me this pin and a post card of a Gouguin painting).

Plaid skirt - Charity shop.

Tights - Forever 21.

High leather boots - Hattie's Vintage

Close up of my little tin bird pin made in Japan - so cute - I love  bird motifs!
I guess I really fit in here in Portland because I put a bird on it! Anybody who has seen the "Put a bird on it" Portlandia episode will know what I am talking about here.

My Easter Outfit

Here is my Easter Outfit that I wore to church today. So far this seems to be the best corner in my apartment for shooting a photo. Hey, at least it was better than the dreadful door that I had as my back drop for the last outfit shot I posted.

Here is the breakdown of my outfit:

Earrings - roadside stand in Arizona on the way to the Grand Canyon years ago
Silk flower corsage - Little White Steeple Antique in Rockaway Beach in Oregon
Sheer pale pink blouse - Red Light, Portland Oregon
Pink velvet 1950's circle skirt - Bombshell Vintage, Portland Oregon
White lace petticoat - Antique Mall in Lincoln City on the Oregon Coast.
Black thigh high stockings - Lille Boutique, Portland Oregon
Kitten heel shoes - Meyer & Frank long before it was Macy's
